What is contemporary dance?

Contemporary dance is a modern, expressive style that blends technique with creativity. Instead of memorizing strict steps, dancers learn to move naturally, listen to the music, and express feelings through movement. It draws on classical and modern dance, and improvisation, and it is one of the most welcoming styles for children who are new to dance.

What happens in class?

In every class, your child will:

Learn the basics of contemporary dance technique in a fun, age-appropriate way.
Try improvisation and discover their own way of moving.
Explore emotions and ideas through movement.
Work with others to create "living" group choreography.
Move confidently, honestly, and in their own style.

Our contemporary program is recreational: relaxed, enjoyable, and without pressure. At the same time, children have the opportunity to take part in festivals and other events, showcase their skills on big stages, and experience the excitement of performing.

Who can join?

Ages 5–8

West Edmonton. A playful, creative start to contemporary dance basics.

Ages 6–9

West Edmonton. Building technique, musicality and confidence in movement.

Ages 10–14

West Edmonton. Deeper technique, improvisation and group choreography.

Ages 8–14

Whyte Ave. A Saturday contemporary and stretching class focused on flexibility, technique and expression.

Dance has been my language since childhood — they say my first words were 'dad' and 'ballerina.' I bring 10+ years of teaching experience, classical training (ballet school, a choreography college and a university program in culture and arts), and performance in international contemporary projects. I led the contemporary dance department at the Arts College in Odesa.

With teens, we explore freedom of movement, improvisation and the power of the moment. I believe every child has a spark, and my job is to help it catch fire.

I've been in sport for more than 14 years. Rhythmic gymnastics quickly became not just a passion, but a way of thinking and shaping character. From a young age I supported younger gymnasts at competitions, and that's when the desire to coach was born.

Today I hold coaching certification and also teach at Edmonton Rhythmic Gymnastics, leading recreational and competitive groups. I focus not only on technique but on how a child feels — creating a space where they can open up, grow and build confidence. My style combines clear structure, gradual progression and a warm atmosphere.
